PICKING UP MY CAR?
If you’ve chosen an optional rental car through Gulf Escapes you’ll have a voucher for Thrifty Car Rental. When you arrive in Vancouver, either downtown or at the airport, head to the Thrifty office/counter and the representatives will be happy to help you. Simply provide Thrifty with your voucher which was issued with your documents, fill out the paperwork and you are on your way. If you wish to upgrade your vehicle, you simply pay the difference on our preferred rate. Note: we are unable to pay any taxes on this rental car.

TRAVEL DIRECTIONS?
Your Gulf Escapes 'On the Road' Travel Kit is a must when traveling the Islands. Your kit contains detailed maps, carefully written driving directions to your various destinations and a collection of local information geared to your customized vacation needs. You’ll find details on local music activities, sights that you may like to see and general information on all the destinations that you will visit.

CROSSING THE US/CANADA BORDER?
To enter Canada identification such as a passport, birth certificate or naturalization papers must be carried as well as government issued photo I.D. Non-US citizens must carry an appropriate passport and visas and may require additional papers. Immigration papers are solely the responsibility of travelers. ABOUT TSAWWASSEN?
Tsawwassen is a town not far from the US/Canada border where the BC Ferries Terminal is located. You will catch your Gulf Islands Ferry from here. Your On the Road Travel Kit includes detailed instructions regarding your ferry destination of Tsawwassen.

GETTING OFF OF THE FERRY?
Follow the instructions in your Gulf Escapes 'On the Road' Travel Kit. Your kit is included with your documents and provides a map and clear directions to your first night’s accommodation.

WEATHER?
The Gulf Islands are the warmest spot in Canada and have the least rainfall. We like to think of it as a Mediterranean kind of climate. Summer temperatures in the Gulf islands are in the mid 80’s always accompanied by mild ocean breezes. Spring and fall are probably the best time of year to travel. There are few visitors and the islands are at their best. The daffodils are out in March, the lambing season starts just before Easter and the fall stretches into early November.

TRAVEL INSURANCE?
Included in our reservation confirmation package is information about ‘Cruise, Tour and Travel’ an optional travel insurance policy offered by Travel Guard Insurance, Americas #1 source for travel insurance and assistance. Travel Insurance can be booked directly from this web site. For a small fee, it provides coverage for a wide range of travel related cancellations and expenses. If you would like a copy of this policy, we will be happy to mail it to you in advance.
