Heading north through Discovery Passage and through the neighboring islands to the mouth of Knights Inlet and anchorage overnight at the entrance to Glendale Cove.
Glendale Cove and Knights Inlet are favorite areas for Grizzly bear tours. 15 ft. power skiffs are provided to ensure close-up but safe observation. The best time for viewing the bears is between May 15 and June 30 or August 4 through October 13. Coming out of hibernation in the spring the bears feed on the shoreline sedge grass and in the fall, on the returning salmon. While the hot tub takes away the cares of the day, the vessel moves north through spectacular scenery to a favorable anchorage.
Billy Proctors Museum of Coastal History and the sophisticated U’mista Cultural Centre at Alert Bay featuring its world famous collection of First Nations artifacts are just a few of the stops to be made. Before arriving at Alert Bay a visit to Sointula the original Finnish community established in the late 1800’s with time to visit the village to purchase a few artifacts and call in at the local museum. Overnight accommodation at Port McNeil on Northern Vancouver Island.
After breakfast on board, a private transfer returns to Campbell River Airport and the departure flight, completing this Vancouver Island cruise vacation.
